Cote pops into the video at about the 10 second mark, declaring enthusiastically that she is, “Cote de Pablo, back again on CBS.”
THE DOVEKEEPERS, a four-hour limited event series from executive producers Roma Downey and Mark Burnett, commenced production today in Malta for broadcast on the CBS Television Network in 2015. The project stars Cote de Pablo, Rachel Brosnahan and Kathryn Prescott in the title dovekeeper roles. It’s based on Alice Hoffman’s acclaimed historical novel about extraordinary women whose lives intersect in a fight for survival at the siege of Masada. This video features de Pablo, Downey and Brosnahan.
New TV miniseries The Dovekeepers is set to film on location in Malta, doubling the Mediterranean island for ancient Israel. Based on a popular novel, the drama will tell the story of the experiences of four women during the Roman Siege of Masada in 70 AD.
Producers routinely favour Malta as a filming location for productions seeking desert-like environments. The Dovekeepers is the second ancient-world story to confirm a Maltese shoot in recent months. British actors Joseph Fiennes and Tom Felton, a veteran of the Harry Potter franchise, are set to film Clavius, the story of a Roman centurion tasked with finding the body of Jesus of Nazareth after rumours of a risen Messiah.
Malta is also a convenient double for Israel and stood in for the country for the filming of Brad Pitt’s zombie drama World War Z. Indeed, Pitt is returning to co-star in the independent movie By the Sea, written and directed by his wife Angelina Jolie.
Israel attracted two major new US drama series earlier this year, but both decided to relocate when renewed violence flared with Gaza. In the short-term, Malta could find itself much in demand as a Mediterranean setting. Morocco would be considered the main international competition, with Croatia and Spain enjoying boosted profiles, partly due to HBO’s fantasy drama Game of Thrones.
The Maltese government recently boosted the country’s filming incentive to 25%, with an extra 2% available for productions specifically set in Malta. It’s a move that could further enhance the international appeal of a country has a long history of successfully hosting big-budget shoots.

Former “NCIS” star Cote de Pablo is returning to CBS.
The actress has been cast in the network’s four-hour miniseries “The Dovekeepers,” from executive producers Roma Downey and Mark Burnett (“The Bible”).
The project is based on Alice Hoffman’s historical novel about four women whose lives intersect in a fight for survival at the siege of Masada.
De Pablo will play one of those four women — Shirah, a “sensual, mysterious and fiercely independent single mother with uncanny insights and a quiet and mysterious power,” the network said. She is derided by many as the “Witch of Moab” for practicing forbidden ancient rites of magic and her keen knowledge of herbal remedies, but those in need don’t hesitate to approach her for her help and generosity of spirit.
“We are thrilled to have Cote de Pablo starring in ‘The Dovekeepers,'” said Downey. “Her talent, strength and beauty will light up the screen in the important role of Shirah.”
De Pablo starred as Special Agent Ziva David for eight seasons on “NCIS” beforedeparting the show last year. She’ll also appear in the upcoming film “The 33,” based on the true story of the rescued Chilean miners in 2010.
“The Dovekeepers” will air on CBS in 2015.
IS ANYONE ELSE AS EXCITED AS I AM? OBVIOUSLY I’M EXCITED AS I’M TYPING IN ALL CAPS AND I CAN BARELY CONTAIN MYSELF! Phew, okay, better now.
…I figured I’d start up a little discussion topic. It’s been one year since it was announced that Cote would not be returning as Ziva David on NCIS for the full season 11. Since then, she’s been involved in one project, The 33 (which we will hopefully have more news on soon!), but what other types of projects would you, her fans, like to see her involved in? More movies, another TV show? Any particular genres?
Maybe more music? (Yes, please!) Or a return to the stage?
